In pursuit of silence

An elegant piece that will give you plenty to think about, if you ever get a quiet moment. The Guardian

In our ever striving for modernity, in the midst of all technological developments and the expansion of cities, silence is a scarce commodity. We are constantly surrounded by sound, whether we like it or not. But does pure silence even exist? Why do we look for it? Or, the other way around, why do we avoid it? During a trip around the world we will explore the secret nature of silence – from the silence in the remote American wilderness to Japanese zen monasteries to the hallucinating absence of silence in todays big cities where noise pollution is becoming unhealthy and provokes aggression and stress. After all, there is no aspect of human existence without the influence of sound and silence. ‘In Pursuit of Silence’ is a cinematic sound experience, a paradoxically musical movie that tickles the ears and gives you the time to reflect on silence.
