This course is a complete, practical training in the transformational method of Awareness Centred Deep Listening, ACDLT®, designed by Rosamund Oliver, which uses the power of bringing simple awareness to listening. Participants will find that this course complements and enhances their existing communication skills. This method provides a way to listen both to ourself as well as to another. The method shows how to prevent exhaustion while listening and supports the natural resilience of the Listener.

Through applying the three core skills of the model, Embodied Awareness, Supportive Presence and Compassionate Connection, participants discover how to listen in depth. As we open deeper channels of listening within ourselves, we hear the subtle and unspoken communications taking place in any communication. By being fully present to another, we stay focused and open to all that we experience, bringing compassion, clarity and openness into the listening exchange.

In this training, supported by the contemplative practice of meditation, we bring the listening tool of awareness to specially designed interactive exercises. In this way participants can personally experience the ability of the natural listening mind to hold a safe listening container. Exploring ways to apply this method back into communication work and in life is an integral part of the training.

Extending Capacity

"Deep Listening training has made me a better listener, not only to others but also to myself, which has resulted in my having less "empathy fatigue”. In conversation with colleagues, companions and relatives using Deep Listening allows people to really tell their story and feel heard. This means that conversations are more effective and profound." - Orthopedagogue, Netherlands 2019

Deep Listening Training is designed to deepen participant’s capacity for listening with awareness, presence, empathy and compassion as they listen in depth. This is combined with greater natural ease and less exhaustion.

  • Enhancing listening ability in all levels of communication in work or clinical situations using specific practical tools.
  • Deepening greater confidence and ability in utilizing existing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Developing greater presence when listening to increase accurate and attuned understanding.
  • Extending awareness of what is arising in the listening encounter, both spoken and unspoken.
  • Utilising authentic, research-evidenced contemplative practices to support effective listening and communication skills.
  • Generating compassionate, embodied listening to provide stability and build greater resilience for the listener, which acts as an antidote to exhaustion and burnout.
  • Facilitating group listening to support greater cohesion and collaboration within teams.
  • Enhancing the skill of self-reflective listening, as part of self-discovery and self-supervision.
